Frugal March
I have to be honest, for the month of March I struggled. I decided to use the mask for 16 exposure (6x4.5 cm) instead of regular 12. Maybe it was the extra 4 frames or the typical PNW weather, this month dragged on. I found myself either forgetting to bring my Holga with me or not finding much to photograph. Towards the end of the month I felt a bit desperate to finish the roll and thankfully my neighbor let me get a portrait of him with his dogs.
Sending my film cross country to get developed always takes longer than I anticipate. I think that I might have to finally start developing my own negatives to help cut back on costs and time. Luckily, I have some of the supplies already from a Christmas present a few years back. Now I just need to find a class or a couple of Youtube videos.
When I received my scans back from Indie Film Lab, my photos ended up having scratches on them. Along with a blank 35mm roll that I had sent. So you can imagine my dismay with receiving that email. Hence why it’s taken me a few extra days to get this blog published. I was feeling pretty bummed and frustrated with the whole analog endeavor. After doing some research I figured out that the blank 35mm roll in the Minox EL was most likely due to a shutter failure which is very common in them. I am hopeful it is an easy fix with the right tools and person (ehem husband) for the job! As far as the scratches on the Holga scans, I ended up taking the back off and filing down any and all sharp edges. I am hopeful next month won’t be so much of a disaster. Although I fear it will be difficult for other reasons.
So please enjoy my scratchy photos : )
