Frugal Febuary
After a somewhat disappointing roll of film from January I wanted to change things up for this month. After some browsing I found a remote shutter mod for the Holga. Only problem was that they don’t produce it anymore. I was able to find a 3-D printed instructions online and asked my husband to print one. After some trial and error I was able to mount it on my holga! (pictures below are cell phone photos)
When I first tried using the remote shutter it wasn’t able to press the shutter all the way. After some tinkering (pliers included) my husband was able to further screw in the remote shutter on the side mount which will enable it to depress the shutter fully. I have come to realize that no two cables are alike and had to try a few different ones that would fully depress the plunger. Luckily, a cable I bought off of Amazon a few years ago seems to have a long enough plunge.
I was so excited about this print, I reached out to Anna.S.Snaps on Instagram as I know her to be the Holga queen. She very kindly told me about another mod that I might be able to print, something I had never heard of. The Splitzer lens. She showed me some of her work with this lens and I was intrigued! Thanks to her and Forrest I was able to print this lens cap cover. And then of course I had to try and print it in a variety of colors. If you’re interested in either of these prints, please check out my shop!
Finally (finally!) got my scans back from the lovely lab in Alabama and unfortunately only 8 frames out of 12 came out! UGH. But I am pleased with a few of the images (see below) that came out. I find the barn photo very pleasing and this gives me hope for shooting b&w for the rest of the year. I’m bummed and disappointed with myself for only having such few images come out but pretty sure it was when I was attempting to use the remote shutter with different cables. Within the project I am hoping to do one self portrait per roll and need some ideas so it’s not the same mirror selfie every time. (suggestions welcome!)
If you’ve made it this far, thank you!
Please check out my friend Amy’s February roll.
